FAQ

What equipment do I need to bring to class?

At BFC Bootcamp, we provide most of the necessary equipment for your workout enjoyment. The only thing (other than water) you’ll need to bring is a yoga-type mat for your comfort during certain exercises and a pair of 5 or 8 pound dumbbells.

What if I’ve never worked out before?

Our number one job is to keep you safe. It’s hard to reach your fitness goals if you’re injured, so our bootcamps are definitely user friendly. All movements and exercises are taught and drilled prior to the workout and modifications based on ability are given. All our bootcampers are able to work together on their “individual” workout using their own intensity level.

How can I schedule personal training?

Personal training times are limited. Please contact me for availability.

Why should I train with you?

Obtaining fitness goals is difficult to say the least. Many forms of exercise are inefficient at helping us get the benefits most of us desire- LOSING WEIGHT! As a health professional and fitness coach, I can help you reach your health and fitness goals by developing a plan and using workout methods that will help you BURN MORE FAT and INCREASE YOUR FITNESS LEVEL! When fitness improves, other detrimental factors such as- diabetes, obesity, and  high blood pressure follow suit.

What type of diet do you recommend?

I have several “diets” that I like and recommend. One thing I can’t stand though is calorie restriction. If you’re working out, you need to eat. Period. You need to eat fat, you need to eat protein, and you need to eat carbohydrates. The quality and/or ratio of the above mentioned macro-nutrients will determine you success or failure in regards to your health/weight loss goals. Here are my top two favorites for health/ weight loss-

For overall health, general wellbeing and weight loss, I recommend a primal/paleo diet. While I don’t believe in evolution, I think we should eat foods in their most natural state. The less processed, the better.  Shopping on the outside aisles of  the grocery store will get you here. Eating this way will give you a good base on which to build a healthy, strong, active body.

For those who are interested in an eating style that will ramp up athletic performance, increase the body’s ability to recover and melt fat off quickly, then look no further than the Zone. It’s definitely a bit more complicated that Paleo eating but the results are worth it. You can find 90% of the info you need by navigating their site. The skinny on the Zone diet is that you balance the ratio of carbs, fats, and protein at every meal. The benefit to this is decreased insulin production and a better hormonal state of the body.

If you have any specific questions about either one of these diets or nutrition in general, feel free to contact me- Chris@BFCBootcamp.com

I come to bootcamp only two or three times a week, so what else should I do for my fitness routine?

Well, that depends on your goals-

Want to lose weight and boost cardiovascular endurance? Nothing beats running. Try a workout from Crossfit Endurance on Friday and/or Saturday. Want to get stronger?Lift heavy weight on Saturday and/or Sunday (3 sets of 5 reps of compound movements like the squat, deadlift, overhead press, or power cleans).

Take advantage of 1 on 1 or group (1 on 3) personal training to maximize your fitness!

Or just look back and repeat one of your favorites (or not so favorite) from the bootcamp. Whatever you do, make sure you’re recovered and ready to go on Monday!

Do you take supplements?

I sure do! While nothing is better for you than real, whole foods, it is sometimes necessary to supplement things that aren’t adequate in your diet. The supplements I take make a difference in ability to stay energized for and recover from my workouts. Here are a few I use and recommend-

Fish oil- we get omega-6 fats out the wazoo in our Standard American Diet (SAD). Fish and fish oil contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids and can help reduce imflammation. If you want to get the same benefit without spending money, decreasing the amount of vegetable oils (corn, canola, soy, palm-kernel) in your diet will benefit you. If you don’t reduce them, fish oil is your best bet. I like Carlson’s , Nordic Naturals and the Zone brands.

Vitamin C- I take at least one Emergen-C a day (typically 2 or 3). Again this is another antioxidant to help with free radical scavenging. Emergen-C also has the added benefit of a B vitamin complex and other minerals.
