Tri It Again!!

Motivation

Oh yea, I'm a fish. Scratch that…a shark!

Tomorrow I will be competing in my second sprint triathlon. The first was a couple of years ago and it was a BLAST!  Not sure what’s taken me so long to commit to doing it again.

The day before a race I often get quite contemplative-

How will things go?

Have I trained enough?

Where are my red socks?

This time I can tell you that the answer to the second question is- maybe? A triathlon is swim-bike-run. In that order. Let me give you a recap of what I’ve been up to.

Swim: I played in the Gulf last Sunday. Does that count as swim training? Probably not. But I can say that if they have a sand castle building contest, my skills are rather strong!

Bike: I had really good intentions of hopping on it and going long. The truth of the matter is that I made a single round trip (4 miles) from the house to the office a few weeks ago. In my defense, it was on my mountain bike. Since those fat tires offer more resistance, I got a “better” workout than if I had ridden my road bike.

Run: Oh, I got this! I can run, baby! Beginning with the Cowtown half in February running has been second nature. 200 and 400 meter runs pop up all the time in my workouts. But do they really prepare me for long distance? Well it worked for 13.1 miles in Feb. I think it’ll be allright.

There you have it. No sweat. I’m going out to have fun with my little bro and kick butt in an event that I have barely trained for. It’ll be fun beating a lot of those guys who’ve been training for this by doing nothing but LSD (long slow distance- not the other stuff).

I’m not exactly in it to win it, but I sure as heck won’t come in last.

We do your stuff nearly as well as you do, you can’t do ours very well at all, and we do everything that we both don’t do much better than you can. Not very humble, I know, but true. -Greg Glassman
