Have You Felt Your Glutes Lately?

Motivation

They're muscles, people, so give 'em a squeeze!

I have. Well, not yours. I’ve felt mine. Um, wait, let’s start over.

The glutes are a big part of your posterior chain, a group of muscles that also includes the lower back muscles, hamstrings, and calves. The posterior chain helps you do things like stay upright, lift heavy objects, as well as run and jump powerfully. A posterior chain that is firing correctly can help you avoid low back pain and postural imbalances that can occur due to prolonged periods of sitting.

At BFC we really work on activating and strengthening the posterior chain. In our bootcamps we use movements like deadlifts, goodmornings, and box squats. In small group training, we use the glute-ham developer to really put a hurtin’ on, uh I mean, really target and strengthen the posterior chain. We also use foam rollers to ‘prehab’ any potential problems in the lower body that can cause imbalances.

Take it from me, a chiropractor who has had low back pain due to a disc herniation since high school, strengthening the glutes and the rest of the posterior chain is worth the trouble. I have had less back pain in the last three years as a result of training these muscles properly. I’d say that’s a story with a real good “ending.” Get it? ;-)

Peace, Love & Fitness,

Dr. Chris
