I’ll just sit this one out.

Motivation

Mack on vacation.

It’s obvious that Mack has been training most of his life. His shape is not one you’d obtain by accident. When you talk to him you learn that his passion for his sport runs deep.

“Oh, I began my training when I was 5 or 6 minutes old,” remembers Mack. “Back then it was mostly being propped on someone’s lap or something like that.”

“The first time I remember really enjoying sitting was probably in my first high chair,” says Mack with a smile. “After that it was stuff like sitting at school, sitting on the floor watching cartoons, and sitting in the car. I got really good at it.”

In fact, Mack got so good at it that he made it as an alternate in the Lazy-Boy Olympics in 1988. “That has to be one of my favorite memories,” he says. “When you get to that level in any sport, you know you’re pretty elite.”

Even though his glory days are behind him, Mack still has a pretty hefty schedule of sitting. “Well Monday through Friday I sit at my desk from 9 to 5. Most days I’ll have my lunch there so I don’t even have to get up then. After work it’s an hour drive to the house where I’ll usually sit and either have dinner in my recliner or on the sofa and watch TV till bedtime.”

Mack says that the weekend is the most hectic time for him and he’s not always able to sit as much as he’d like. “If we have a wedding or something like that to go to, I can usually get in some sitting then. Even at the mall I find plenty of places to train. It’s not quality sitting, but it works in a pinch,” he explains. Luckily, Mack even has a small riding mower for his 0.21 acres that needs taming every other week during the spring and summer.

Lately, sitting has taken a new role in Mack’s life. “I have to sit these days. I usually can’t stand for too long without some sort of pain. And with all the extra weight I’ve accumulated, sitting is so much easier than doing anything else,” Mack tells me while looking past me at his 58″ plasma. As our conversation is interrupted by a hilarious string of videos on AFV, I can’t help but look at Mack sitting with his feet propped up on the ottoman. He sure looks comfortable. I guess that’s why he does what he does.

Yep, Mack is quite a sitter. He’s got the physique to prove it!

**Disclaimer** This story is purely fictional (except for the fact that millions of people are like this in our country today) and I don’t know anyone named “Mack” who is a “professional sitter.”

  1. Have You Felt Your Glutes Lately? : BFC says:

[...] The glutes are a big part of your posterior chain, a group of muscles that also includes the lower back muscles, hamstrings, and calves. The posterior chain helps you do things like stay upright, lift heavy objects, as well as run and jump powerfully. A posterior chain that is firing correctly can help you avoid low back pain and postural imbalances that can occur due to prolonged periods of sitting. [...]
